Research Cluster-Marketing

The research interests of several HSUHK researchers concern the increasingly pervasive influence of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms on various aspects of marketing.  Their cutting-edge research has shed light on human-AI collaboration in customer service processes and the nuanced design of digital customer review platforms, using a variety of methodologies ranging from controlled experiments to netnography and text mining. They have published their work in high-level academic journals, including European Journal of Marketing and the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and also hosted an international symposium on Word of Web and Digital Marketing.

The Branding and Strategic Marketing cluster features HSUHK scholars whose research is focused on examining firm-level issues pertaining to the management of foreign versus domestic brands, business negotiations, distribution channels, strategic alliances, geopolitical challenges, etc. They have published in top-tier academic journals such as Journal of MarketingJournal of Marketing Research, and Journal of International Business Studies, and have been entrusted with gate-keeping roles in these high-impact journals. The impacts of their research have extended beyond academia, as they have consulted for the public and private sectors, both locally and internationally.

The Consumer Behaviour cluster brings together HSUHK researchers interested in studying the psychological, social, cultural, and environmental factors underlying consumer motivations, perceptions, attitudes, and decisions. They have used a wide spectrum of methods in their research, including experiments, surveys, observations, and data mining. Supported by RGC and other funding bodies (with total funding exceeding HKD5,000,000), their research has appeared in leading academic journals such as Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of International Marketing, and Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services. Their other accolades include a runner-up award at the Sheth-SCP Dissertation Competition.

The research of several HSUHK scholars falls into the domain of Hospitality, Tourism, and Services Marketing. These scholars have addressed longstanding issues of service failure/recovery and customer loyalty, and also explored contemporary topics such as service robots and managerial response to online service reviews. Apart from conducting controlled and field experiments, they have analyzed large-scale online review data in their research. Their work has appeared in major academic journals such as International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Services Marketing, and Tourism Management. These HSUHK scholars have been awarded several RGC grants and recognized as a finalist at the APD x ANZMAC Research Innovation Competition.

The Business Ethics and Sustainable Consumption cluster includes a few HSUHK scholars with research interests in sustainable consumption, ethical marketing, corporate social responsibility, and related topics. They are dedicated to advancing societal well-being and environmental sustainability. The group has a proven track record of RGC grant success, and has published in Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, British Journal of Management, and Business Strategy and the Environment, and also hosted an international symposium on Consumer Ethics. Some members also hold editorial positions in relevant academic journals, such as Asian Journal of Business Ethics and Business Strategy and the Environment.
