Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) Centre

In order to enhance the research capability in business of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), Research Institute for Business (RIB) developed a Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) Centre. The CATI Centre is equipped with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system and questionnaire management system to collect opinions from the public. Compared with data collection via fieldwork, data collection via CATI Centre could reduce the influence of environmental factors. It also reduces the manpower needed in large scale research projects.

In the processes of data collection, the CATI Centre applies random sampling method to select interviewees. All interviewers will follow a conscientious and scientific rule and regulation. The data collection process will be monitored by staff of RIB to ensure all progress undergo in an accurate way.

The CATI Centre can fulfil the needs of different concentrations and topics, for example, Behavioral Science, Marketing, Social Science, and Finance etc. The CATI Centre supports different or multidisciplinary researches. In the long run, the research capability of the HSUHK will be strengthened.

Behavioral Laboratory

The Behavioral Laboratory is a globally-adopted research facility to conduct behavioral research. It supports data collection for researches in different business-related topics, such as consumer behavior, psychology and behavior, social psychology, behavioral economics and management.

The facility comprises a Group Behavioral Laboratory, an Individual Behavioral Laboratory, a reception area and a control room. The Individual Behavioral Laboratory is an ideal place for conducting in-depth interviews or bargaining experiments. The Group Behavioral Laboratory is designed for focus groups or research on interpersonal communication or team dynamics. The control room is equipped with an advanced video monitoring and recording system and a one-way mirror. Sitting in the Control Room, researchers can control the camera(s) in each laboratory while listening and watching participants via the mirror or the monitor. The Behavioral Laboratory is a versatile resource to support research that concerns behavior.

Sona Systems

For Researchers

RIB is using an online system, the Research Participation System called SONA, to recruit students and staff for research participation. The system is an easy online tool that connects Researchers with Participants.

If you are interested to sign up for research conducted by HSMC’s staff members, please click here and request an account. You can always check on new studies available and register after login.

If you are interested to set up a study in SONA and do not have a researcher account yet, please contact RIB at

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS)

WRDS platform is organized and managed by Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. It provides the users with one location to access over 200 Terabytes of data across multiple disciplines including Accounting, Banking, Economics, Finance, ESG, and Statistics. WRDS platform could provide raw data for academic research, including stock indexes, international exchange rate, and company information. Users of WRDS platform can retrieve relevant data and build up different models accordingly. For details about the WRDS databases subscribed by RIB, please refer to “Brief descriptions of subscribed WRDS databaseshere.
